Slingo Classic - Classically delicious

Slingo Classic is the first free-to-play game (with prizes) that I ever played. The quick pace and excitement changed my view of online games!

Ahh... Sweet, sweet nostalgia.

You can play Slingo Classic on Slingo.com. Shocking, I know!

Slingo is a combination of Bingo and slots. You start out with a numbered card and 20 spins. To get numbers you click TAKE SPIN and hope for many matches! Numbers will match with the column directly above them, and no where else. (Not all numbers will match. Just like Bingo!) Getting 5 in a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally is called a slingo. Also, Slingo is a timed game where you compete against everyone in the room. Lots of fun there! ^_^

Scoring

Match any number = 200 points
5 in a row (slingo!) = 1,000 points
Spinning a coin (see below) = 1,000 points

Shiny!

If you cover every number on your card, you get a Full Card [FC] bonus! The earlier you complete the card, the bigger the bonus!

Special Pieces

In Slingo Classic you'll find far more than just numbers and coins in your spins. Take a look!

First off, the coins! (Scroll up a tiny bit and you'll see one.) They're worth 1,000 points and are a FANTASTIC score booster! The only time I don't want coins is when I have a nearly full card and *really* need some numbers. Then they're kinda obnoxious.

Another great item is the Joker! Jokers match with ANY numbers in the column above them.

Woot! Three Jokers!!

Multiple Jokers in a single spin gets ya some bonus points.
  • 3 Jokers = 1,000 points
  • 4 Jokers = 2,500 points
  • 5 Jokers = 10,000 points!!!
In all my years of Slingoing I've never had 5 Jokers. But I bet it's awesome. ^_^

Of course, if you're extra lucky you may just find a SUPER JOKER!

He likes to wear green.

The Super Joker appears ONLY in the middle. But he's Super because you can put him anywhere on the board. You have to place him first, so be careful! It's easy to place him and then realize you spun a number that would have matched anyway, which basically wastes the Super Joker. (Painful voice of experience here.)

Mr. Green Joker is pretty rare, but he's a great fellow to find once you know how to use him. ^_^

Oh.. that sounds a little.. uh....

Moving on! Free Spin Tokens. These puppies are crucial to a good game.

Colorful too!

See, the first 16 spins are free. Spins 17-20 cost points. Each spin costs 500 points more than the previous spin, so if you have to buy all four spins you will lose 5,000 points. That is a BIG chunk of your score.

If you're lucky you'll find 4 spin tokens during the free spins, so you don't have to pay anything at all. ^_^ That's always lovely.

If you're unlucky and have just 1-3 tokens, save them for the last spins. Remember, spin #17 costs 500 points, and spin #20 is 2,000 points. BUY the cheaper spins and save your tokens until the very end.

So far all of these are good things. ^_^ Well, there is one thing that you don't want to see on a spin. Flames.

*Insert terrified scream*

Flames means that you just found The Devil.

Darn Devil indeed!

This evil guy steals HALF of your points! AAAAGGGGGH!!!

Sometimes you'll play a full game without seeing him. Or you might run into him several times in one game. Sometimes he shows up at the beginning, when you don't have many points to lose. Sometimes he shows up at the end and boots you from first place. It's random.

When you get the flames, don't fall into complete despair! A thin ray of hope outlines the flames. Maybe, just maybe, a cherub will see fit to save your bum.

Thank you thank you thank you!!!

The cherub chases away the devil, turns the flames into a cute angel head, and you get to keep your coins!!!! WAHOOOO!!!!!!

Tips and Tricks

Slingo Classic is a fast paced game. You have only a few seconds to take your spin or you lose the turn. Then you have about 10 seconds to scour your card for matches. It can get hectic!

If you know that you're going to be disturbed by a partner/pet/child, wait before giving Slingo Classic a shot. It's a great game, but it's frustrating when you miss spins.

This next bit sounds strange, but hold off on making slingos (5 in a row) for as long as you can. This way, if the Devil shows up and steals half of your points, you still have a LOT more points available. You don't have a choice when you spin numbers, but you can plan where to put the jokers. Below is one of my favorite patterns.

If you look closely you'll see that I haven't made a single slingo yet, but those 5 numbers will unlock all 14 possible slingos. That's 14,000 points!

This technique has earned me 1st place many, many times.

I win!!!

Unfortunately you don't get anything special for winning 1st. Darn. :(

Playing Slingo Classic in the "normal" rooms means that your score is your coin reward. It's a 1 to 1 ratio. If, after playing a while, you want to aim even higher, then you should try the betting rooms. (They're listed below the normal rooms.) Depending what room you pick, you wager either 10k, 25k, 50k, or 100k coins each game. This all goes into a pot, so the more people in the room, the bigger the pot will be.

First place gets the entire pot!

Yeah, I'm good. ^_^

Everyone else gets the normal reward. If you don't have many coins yet then don't leap into the 100k tables right away!

Final Rating

I really enjoy Slingo Classic. ^_^ I thought that my love for it would fade over time, but nope! It's still a great game! The rooms are friendly, the games are quick and exciting, and once I start playing I don't want to leave.

Definite 5 out of 5 stars!
