Sunday Reader - Issue 2: Enjoying the Newbness

My favorite type of game is RPG. Surprised? ^_^ I've played Runescape for around six years and I've loved every minute of it. Most other RPGs hold my attention for a few months at the most, but I always enjoy playing them!

To me, the best part of any RPG game is the very beginning. I love being a newb (new player). I love getting lost while exploring and finding areas off the beaten path that most people never see. I love picking up every gold coin or bone that another player leaves behind. Heck, I even love the challenge of defeating a level 1 rat! ^_^

There's just something fascinating about how the unfamiliar becomes familiar. The process of going from where I can't even find the map, to being able to tell someone seven different ways to reach a city is just cool. And going from fighting a goblin (and barely surviving) to slaying entire hordes without breaking a sweat is awesome!

I guess the running theme here is, "growth." It's fun to start from nothing and see how far you can go!

Why do I bring this up? Well, I view this as my newb blogger time. Instead of experience points I'm counting visitors. Instead of fighting rats I'm wrestling with code. (And often losing.) Quests involve reaching out to other sites and hoping that I'm good enough to merit attention. ^_^

It's only been a little over 3 months since FMG started, and already it seems like we've come so far! I know there's a long way to go, but the biggest thing I've learned from playing RPGs is this: If you don't enjoy going from level 1 to level 2, then you won't get very far at all. Celebrating the baby steps (and all the steps in between) is important!

So I don't want to forget this. Any of it! Without a beginning, there is no journey. Without a journey, the destination doesn't hold much meaning.

Enjoy your day! ^_^

Love,
Mira
